Why Slate?

Every Slate home is built to feel complete. Requirements, contraints and unique opportunities are explored together, so nothing feels like an afterthought and nothing is left unfinished. Every decision is guided by your north star - the home you want and how you want to live in it - and the result is a home that’s beautiful, considered and fully resolved.
We partner with some of New Zealand’s leading architects and designers, and bring the right talent to your project for your brief, site and style. Great design deserves great delivery. With Slate engaging, coordinating and managing the whole design team, their vision is carried right through to the finished home.
A live cost budget runs behind every stage, alongside a master programme and a clear consent pathway. Decisions are made in the right order, with sign-off at each stage, all the way through to a fixed price before construction starts. Risks are identified early and dealt with before they become surprises, so you always know where you stand.
First in the room, last to leave. One point of contact from the first conversation to handover. We hold the contract, the risk and the coordination of every consultant and trade, so you’re never stuck in the middle managing people. Less time chasing and worrying, more time enjoying the process of creating your home.
We take on a small number of projects each year and give each one our full attention. Our process doesn’t impose a style - it makes every design better: more resolved, better built, higher quality. Backed by 30 years of building in New Zealand, that’s what the Slate name stands for, and it’s what you’ll be joining.
